Two suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a double homicide this month. Police were called to a home in the 1400 block of John Clark Road in the Dover area community of Rodney Village on October 17. The caller stated that a home invasion had taken place. A witness in the home told police that her father had been shot while scuffling with two invaders. He later died from his wounds. The victim’s son was also shot and killed as he chased the invaders out of the house. The victims have been identified by the Delaware State Police as Clifton Leager, 52, of Rodney Village, and Haley Henwood, 18, of Philadelphia. The two suspects are also from Philadelphia and have since been arrested.
Saleem Shabazz was taken into custody on October 23 after he was found at a Pennsylvania home. The other suspect, Michael Harrington, turned himself in to police in Pennsylvania hours after the incident. Both await extradition to Delaware.
The suspects face first-degree murder charges, two counts of attempted robbery, six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of first-degree burglary and single counts of first-degree conspiracy and second-degree conspiracy. Enhancements may also be added.
